Rainfeather walked on the path to the Moonpool. She had heard of it, but had never seen it. The Moonpool was glowing a silver blue color. She walked near it and layed down and dipped her nose in the cold water. She fell into a deep sleep.
"Where am I?" She looked around and saw nine other cats. "What's going on?!" She looked closer and saw that she knew some of the cats. There was her life-long friend Shortwing, her kittypet father Boots, her mother Blue, the first Rainstar of Windclan, her mentor Longfang, her rival Daggerclaw, an old tom that Rainfeather didn't know, a tom that she didn't know, and a beautiful she-cat that Rainfeather didn't know.
The first of the cats stepped towards Rainfeather. It was Shortwing. "Shortwing! I've missed you so much!" Shortwing started to speak. "My prophecy is starting to unfold. You will be a great leader Rainfeather. I will give you the gift of friendship and compassion for your clanmates. Please use it well." He toched his nose to Rainfeather's. She felt a great surge of warm pain run through her. Rainfeather pressed her muzzle against Shortwing's chest.
He stepped back and another cat stepped forward. "My beautiful daughter, how you've grown! I will give you the gift of knowledge. Use this in times of need." The large black tom touches his nose to Rainfeather's and stepped back. She felt the same king of surge of pain, but this time it was just pain. Nothing else was mixed in. "Thank you, Father."
The next cat to come was her mother. "Mother? Is it really you?" She nodded. "Yes my kit. It is me, Blue. I will give you the gift of ambition or dream. Use it to keep striving forward to greatness." Blue touched noses with Rainfeather, then walked back to the line of cats. Rainfeather felt pain and ready to achieve greatness.
Longfang stepped infront of Rainfeather. "Rainfeather, I'm sorry that I couldn't be there when you recieved that name." She looked up at Longfang and saw a proud look in his eyes. "You taught me so much as an apprentice, Longfang." He started speaking again. Rainfeather, please accept my gift, the gift of courage so that you can protect Windclan from anything." He dipped his head and his nose met hers. Rainfeather felt the same pain as before. She felt braver and watched her mentor walk off. "Thank you so much Longfang."
Daggerclaw walked forward. Rainfeather, we were once rivals and you kept me from seeing clearly. Or that's what I tried to make it seem. I was so ambitious that I clouded my own vision. Please take my gift. The gift of equality so that you may not do the same as I did." He dipped his head and touched noses with Rainfeather. She felt pain and warmth that time. Daggerclaw stepped back.
From the line the old tom spoke up. "These are some previous Windclan cats. They want to help you out. Accept their gifts." The beautiful she-cat stepped up. I am Morningflower. I was a mother when the clans had to leave the forest. My only kit was the only thing that I cared about. Please acept my gift, the gift of love. Please care for every kit in you clan as you would your own." She touched her nose to Rainfeather's and instead of pain she felt all warmth.
The unknown tom stepped forward. "I'm Onestar, a previous leader of Windclan. I give you the gift of confidence so that all of your cats will believe in you." His nose met Rainfeather's and she felt a surge of pain. She had gotten used to them so it felt weaker.
The next cat was Rainstar. "Aren't you Rainstar, the previous leader of Windclan?" The tom nodded and started to speak. "Yes, I am Rainstar. You will take on my name soon and also my gift. I give the gift of self-controll. Don't let your temper rise above you." He touched her nose and stepped back again. She barely felt the pain this time.
Finally, the elderly tom stepped forward. "I am the first leader of Windclan, Tallstar. I give you two things. One is the gift of leadership. I want you to be able to lead your clan well and be able to keep your clan under controll. And take your new name. Rainfeather, you are now Rainstar!" He touched her nose and backed off. She felt a rush of emotion and pain.
The cats of Starclan started to chant her name. "Rainstar! Rainstar! Rainstar!" Then, one by one, they turned and started to walk into a mist. The last to turn was Shortwing. "No! Shortwing please! Please don't leave me again!" He turned and said, "I'll never leave you. Just remember the good time that we had. I'll always be with you and so will the rest of Starclan, Rainstar." His scent filled her nostrills and he vanished. Tears fell from her eyes and she found herself outside. She got to her feet and left with Silverpelt still shining.
