Wildheart Hope and pray that you never need me, But rest assured, I will not let you down. Weaving through the ThunderClan forest, Wildheart truly felt at home. Trees overhead, birdsong filling each ear, and the familiar scents of his home territory put the tom at rest. His personality, however, wouldn’t allow him to relax his stiff muscles as he strode through the undergrowth, headed for the Oak Pine forest. His golden eyes searched the ground in front of him carefully, aware for any sign of unnatural movement, while his ears constantly scanned the area around him like satellite dishes, and his body followed suit, tensely waiting to spring if he caught any cat on ThunderClan territory. He looked downright paranoid, though that wasn’t far from the truth. Could never hurt to be ready, he thought to himself. Through the regular forest sounds, he could hear the rhythmatic paw steps of his new apprentice, Hawkpaw, following behind him. The old tom was pleased with the change of heart Hawkpaw had when leaving the scene earlier. Wildheart had paused just long enough to listen to his apology to Icepaw before returning, and the warrior felt proud of his new apprentice for the act of kindness. That attribute will help him later in life; it’ll be a lifesaving asset to him in the future. Prey scent filled the tom’s nose, and he slowed his steady pace enough to fall back in step with Hawkpaw. “I’m just going to watch this time. I’ll stay back and let you do your own thing; I want to see what you can do while hunting.” The tom’s serious, intimidating golden eyes rested on the ginger apprentice for a moment, before falling back further to follow behind him. Although, the warrior’s mind wasn’t at ease. He was still confused as to what set off the scuffle before they came here, and why the two felt the need to fight. Wildheart slowed to a stop, the tip of his tail flicking from side to side. “Hawkpaw, wait,” he called, to halt his eager apprentice. “Answer me something first.” Thinking back to the clearing only moments ago, he couldn’t get his mind off of the red streaks across Icepaw’s face. They weren’t a big deal, really, but Hawkpaw could be spoken to by Fernstar, and if that’s the case, punishment could ensue. “Why were the two of you fighting back there? I know Icepaw can have an attitude sometimes, but I didn’t know you’d go so far as to fight with him.” Wildheart’s voice was laced with nothing but questions as he spoke. He wasn’t getting onto his apprentice; at least not yet. “Tell me. Was it you, or him, that started that fight?”

Stupid! Why did he have to catch us at that! If Fernstar finds out, I'll be punished! Hawkpaw yelled at himself in his mind as he padded after his mentor. He still couldn't believe that the cat he was following was his new mentor. Fernstar must care just a little to have given him the warrior after this long.
Hawkpaw watched his paws as he listened to where Wildheart was walking; weaving through the trees of ThunderClan's forest. The young tom didn't feel like watching his mentor like the other apprentices, nope, he was to busy having a mind talk with himself.
"Why couldn't he have come before the fight? Icepaw started it!" Hawkpaw said until the little button-pusher in his mind lift his way through. If you would have just wrestled with him like a warrior is supposed to and not ran your mouth, it would have been a different story, now wouldn't it? The voice sounded strong and powerful, compaired to Hawkpaws defeated tone.
In the conflict with himself, Hawkpaw didn't realize that his mentor stopped, so the tom didn't know where he was going and walked straight into a tree. The next thing Hawkpaw didn't expect was to stagger backwards, his head hurting, "Dang it! That hurt!" he whispered to himself until Wildheart's strengthened tone bursted into his head.
“I’m just going...back and let...thing; I want...while hunting.” Hawkpaw just blinked and looked up, the ringing in his ears were to much as to he could only hear a couple of words that his mentor said until it died down. He thought it was something about him trying to hunt while Wildheart watched.
So he figrued that was what it was and padded forward before he listened to hear his mentor call him back. Turning around he sat down and awaited the words to leave the brown-and-black tom.
Why were the two of you fighting back there? I know Icepaw can have an attitude sometimes, but I didn’t know you’d go so far as to fight with him. Tell me. Was it you, or him, that started that fight?
Hawkpaw narrowed his eyes and thought about what he was going to say, he was remembering the order that he was asked. "Honestly, at first he wanted to wrestle; I told him no, that I didn't want to, I just wanted to take a walk really and I guess he thought that I didn't want to fight him because he was blind. He called me a coward, said I was afraid to fight him, and that he didn't have any training because Cedarclaw wouldn't do anything with him."
The dark ginger tom shook his head, his ears pulled back as he continued with what happened. "I tried to tell him that he has learned about herbs, and fighting would probably come later, but he shook that off. Then I tried to tell him that I didn't want to fight him because if he got hurt it would be on me, and that it was good he was Cedarclaw's apprentice, because without a Medicine Cat, we would have no one to keep our warriors alive to still be with us now."
Hawkpaw shrugged and stated last, "Then I told him he was stubborn and rude and that if he stayed like that no cat would respect him because they would probably rather be in pain than have to listen to him."
The ginger tom wrapped his tail around his paws, so that he could see if he would have to take any harsh words from Wildheart, or if he would just be shaken off so they could continue training.

Wildheart Hope and pray that you never need me, But rest assured, I will not let you down. Throughout the young ginger tom's explanation of the happenings just a few moments before, Wildheart felt a small, amused smile spread across his maw. He didn't like the fact that the two were fighting; it was simply this apprentice that amused him. The way Hawkpaw described the goings on was funny in itself, even if he may have been the source of the fight itself. Hawkpaw had a temper, as well as Icepaw, and it seemed that if the two were in the same area at the time that that temper was at it's worst, there'd be some type of fight that ensued. "You're completely right," Wildheart agreed, his serious exterior calming his previously amused expression. "If a medicine cat isn't helpful, and instead decides to mouth off to whomever it is that needs attending to, then no cat will want any part of them." The tabby tom's golden eyes gazed down at his young apprentice. "You're thinking on higher terms than most apprentices that I've met." He gave a small grin to the ginger tom, before padding past him into the undergrowth just behind the cat. "Can't wait to see what you can do in action."
The aging tom continued through the forest, before he came across a prey scent. It was a vole, and the scent itself was fresh. Wildheart inhaled the tempting scent, and turned to face his apprentice. "Tell me now, what do you smell?"

Hawkpaw kept the serious face that he had for the explaination to boast inside about how his new mentor said he was right! How often does that happen? Let alone, how does that happen when the mentor finds his apprentice fighting with the apprentice Medicine Cat?
"You're thinking on higher terms than most apprentices that I've met. Can't wait to see what you can do in action."
The young ginger tom couldn't help but let a smile seep across his oak-colored face, his ice-blue eyes glowing with excitement. He had been worried that Wildheart would have sided with Icepaw instead of him. Claiming that he was a bother and not worth being an apprentice. Hawkpaw's main fear, being rejected.
"Tell me now, what do you smell?"
The question caught Hawkpaw by surprise, for a moment, he thought that the two would talk a little more, so he hesitated for a moment to take in the scents around him.
Obviously he smelled the trees and the scent of the leaves. Wildheart came next, the senior warrior had just walked in front of him, so his scent was stuck there. Closing his eyes, Hawkpaw let the world stop around him, singling out the different scents.
"I-I do scent the forest, you as well," the tom started, his eyes still shut as he concentrated. "I think I can smell the lake," then a scent caught Hawkpaw's attention, he couldn't think of what it was at the moment, but he knew the scent.
It had a bit of a mouse-like scent, but Hawkpaw knew it wasn't a mouse. The host of the scent had been something he had eaten just the night before. So Hawkpaw scrolled through the names he knew; A thrush was a bird, as well as a starling and a magpie and this wasn't a bird. Squirrel was deffinatly out, and so was the rabbit as he knew it couldn't be them.
That leaves a shrew and a vole, but shrews smell so strange and this isn't a shrew. "Uh-I think I also smell a vole, but I'm honestly not to sure about that though Wildheart."
The tom gave a small voice as he spoke, he didn't like not knowing the answer after he was just told he was right over Icepaw. Folding his ears back in disappointment, Hawkpaw hoped he could remember the scents of each animal prey that ThunderClan caught.
Word Count;; 419 Cats;; Hawkpaw Notes;; It's alright Twi! Just post when you can, I'm just throwing random things like him thinking (and running into a tree) to liven up my posts XD

Wildheart Hope and pray that you never need me, But rest assured, I will not let you down. Confusion rippled through the tabby tom’s striped pelt, though it soon ebbed away with understanding. It seemed that Hawkpaw was simply nervous about having a new mentor and all. Wildheart could relate; putting himself in his apprentice’s paws, he’d be nervous as well. He waited patiently for the ginger tom to scent the air and take not of his surroundings before giving an answer to his previous question.
“I-I do scent the forest, you as well. I think I smell the lake.”
Seemed he was more nervous that Wildheart first assumed. The ginger tom was letting his emotions get in the way of his own training, clouding his judgment. That was something he’d have to work on later; boosting this cat’s self confidence. It was clear that Hawkpaw was eager to learn, and may even look up to Wildheart himself, and for that the old tom was thankful for; at least he wasn’t as bouncy and energetic as some of the other apprentices. He was starting to become proud that Hawkpaw was his apprentice now, instead of any other cat.
“Uh- I think I also smell a vole, but I’m honestly not too sure about that though, Wildheart.”
Hawkpaw stated that last sentence quickly and with hesitation, as if second guessing himself on his judgment. A prickle of amusement sparkled in the old tom’s eyes. So he knew his prey scents. Don’t get ahead of yourself; this is just his first assignment, he reminded himself mentally. Wildheart opened his maw to speak. “I should hope that you could smell the forest, me, and the lake from here. They are all right in front of you. All those scents, though, are just background smells. You need to learn how to train your nose to filter out those scents and focus only on the prey scents.” A small smirk showed then. “And you are, once again, completely right. The scent is a vole. Good job.” Only a few moments with his new apprentice and Wildheart was already proud of him. Now lets see if he really knows his stuff. “Now, can you tell me how fresh it is?” Another sniff himself, and he judged that the vole had passed through recently. In fact, it was probably close by.
