As the calico graciously took in her clan-mate's chants and words of congratulations, she couldn't help but beam. A smile was plastered on her face which in turn changed her body language. Her tail flicked happily and hers ears angled attentively in front of her, content to hear anything that would arise. Her eyes took a chance to glance at every cat, sending a package of gratitude and good humor with them, that is, until her eyes fell upon the scarred ebony tom to the right of her. His eyes caught hers, that same deep emotional connection blazing in their depths. Miragesoul was stunned, literally stopped en-route to her bright and cheery path by the offer of another one. Could it be? Of course it was, she would never forget Blackstar, no matter what she told herself.
I can't fall in love again. I can't put myself in such a position, and definitely not with him. He left, anyways! He's not the leader anymore; he's not who he used to be, or at least who I thought he was. He's not my mate, not anymore. For a brisk moment, pain and longing tugged at her body, urging her to take the second path, to feel the passion and comfort of how she used to be, but she walked on, straight into the unknown path with the sun sending light into every corner. Re-gaining her smile, she nodded to the senior warrior and looked at her companion. "I think we could get used to paying ourselves back," she meowed softly.
Smallstar soon proceeded to call forward the apprentices. One by one, they all stepped forward. Leopardkit and the two litter-mates, Pebblekit and Heatherkit. Leopardkit - nay, Leopardpaw - was apprenticed first, getting the ambitious Russetfur as his mentor. Russetfur will have to tone down her ambitions to become leader, and forgo her angst towards Smallstar's new rank. She has definite potential to teach Leopardpaw what he needs to know. Pebblekit's rambunctious nature seemed to be in the same neighbourhood as the comic Lightheart. Coincidentally, or was it by coincidence?, the two were paired together. Lightheart will turn out to be an interesting mentor, his positive influence and encouraging personality will surely benefit Pebblepaw. Off to the side, she spoke a word of congratulations to the patchy tom and rusty she-cat. Heathkit sat alone under the High Branch, the last to be awarded her mentor. Miragesoul was to mentor the good-natured she-cat.
Today was a good day for Miragesoul, except for the fact that her old mate had come back. Of course she was glad for the clan that a respected and skilled warrior had returned, she just feared that her mind would be led a-stray from her new duties because of him. She would soon find out that her will may be stronger than she initially thought. After the leader jumped off the branch Miragesoul stood up and made her way over to Heatherpaw. "It'll be my pleasure to teach you," she dipped her head and then touched noses with her. Although her hasty emotions may wreck havoc on some days, she was sure Heatherpaw would have a promising future, as all three apprentices did, and she would try her hardest to make sure she would be able to propel the young she-cat towards that positive future. Just because the rough parts of her history have showed their faces again, doesn't mean that they would have to reflect on her lessons. "Leopardpaw! Pebblepaw! Heatherpaw!"

As Lightheart sat and waited for Smallstar to announce the new apprentices, he became aware of a disturbance near the back of the camp, the distinct tread of paws that could belong to only one cat. Darksoul...? However, the new scent that reached his nostrils was not of Darksoul alone, but also that of a completely different cat, one familiar and yet strange at the same time.
He allowed himself a quick look, and then his eyes widened. Blackstar! Instantly his eyes flashed back to Miragesoul, remembering all the bad blood that came between the former leader and the new deputy. What was Darksoul thinking?
Lightheart still vividly remembered that day, moons ago, when he'd returned to ShadowClan's camp and found the medicine den reeking of crowfood and mouse bile. He smirked at the memory; he'd been the one that'd slipped in that foul, reeking stuff, not long before Darksoul had padded out of his den, informed Lightheart of the gravity of the situation, and warned him to keep quiet in his trademark threatening manner. He'd spent the rest of the time rolling around in front of the medicine den, spreading mouse bile on the ground and out of his fur.
Why was the medicine cat choosing now to reveal his big secret? He couldn't be trying to sabotage the clan, could he? Maybe he was hoping to slip in unnoticed in all the commotion, but then why would Darksoul leap right up onto the high branch and interrupt Smallstar?
While these thoughts ran through his mind, he kept a close eye on Miragesoul, watching her reaction. For a moment, she'd seemed uncertain, and a flash of longing crept across her face, but then her eyes changed, not turning hard or dull, but showing some other strange emotion entirely.
Curious. And yet, despite this maelstrom of questions and calculations that were running through his mind, the black and white tom still kept his goofy grin, with the tip of his tail raised and inch and pointing towards Pebblekit, giving the impression, as usual, that nothing was wrong.
Smallstar was starting the apprentice ceremony, and Lightheart found himself leaning forward in spite of himself. Leopardkit, serious Leopardkit, became Leopardpaw, and was apprenticed to Russetfur. Lightheart's ear twitched uncomfortably as he watched the young cat go. This could be a match made in StarClan... or in the Dark Forest.
He leaned in closer as Smallstar continued, and when she reached his name, he lost his balance completely and fell forward, shooting up a big wave of mud. Typical Lightheart humor, really, splashing everyone with his joke, with completely inappropriate timing.
As a result of taking an 'accidental' mud bath, his hearing was a little muffled, but he could still catch the gist of what Smallstar was saying, and waved his tail cheerily at Miragesoul's congratulation before turning around to touch noses with the newly named Pebblepaw, depositing a sizeable amount of mud in the young tom's fur in the process.
"Right-o, first, I'll be taking you on a tour around the territory, Pebblepaw. We can go find the Pine-bare-place and wait for the rain to start again. After all, we both could use a wash," said Lightheart, whiskers twitching.

So she had missed Smallfoot, no Smallstar now announce a clan meeting, big whoop. She could careless about who led the clan, it wouldn't have been her, she had yet to train an apprentice which also excluded her from becoming deputy, for now. Powerful muscles rippled beneath an ebony and ivory pelt and her broad shoulders easily shoved what little undergrowth there was aside. She made no hurry to reach the meeting, what did it matter? She hadn't been asked to mentor any of the new kits, so it was doubtful that she would be given her first apprentice tonight.
The large warrior paused and stood still, only her head and neck moved. Her bright pink nose was raised to the heavens and her mighty jaws were parted. She sucked in a great lungful of air, trying to draw the moist air over her scent glands located in the roof of her mouth. Yes she was positive as to the owner of the scent, but it couldn't be. StarClan wouldn't have given Smallstar her nine lives if it were true. Her venomous green eyes widened in shock. Her powerful muscles bunched involuntarily and she raced back to camp. She had to see if it was true.
As Blackwing cleared the tunnel she unsheathed her claws to help herself come to a stop before she crashed into any cats. Her nose hadn't lied. There heading off with Smallstar was none other than Blackstar. What was going to happen now? The meeting was now clearly over. Had her sister been given a mentor? Where was Nightpaw, she was usually the last one to leave clan meetings. Perhaps she had gone to bed, after all she had gone to Moonpool earlier. Blackwing stood in the middle of the clearing confused. What was going to happen to the ShadowClan leaders and who was deputy? Who had been given apprentices. Where was Nightpaw and who was her mentor? Had she been given an apprentice? Head swarming with thoughts and questions, she thought it best to head for the warriors den. She'd learn from the others.

Pebblepaw;; Pebblepaw nodded his head. He was proud of his new mentor, even embarrising at times. Lightheart had taken a mud bath and splattered his fur in the making of touching noses. His white chest fur had some cold brown spots and his chest and face was stained with brown wer dirt. "Gee, I can't wait." Replied Pebblepaw. He wasn't too enthustiastic about the bath in the rain, even if his mentor wanted one. Pebblepaw, ignoring the fact of getting wet and muddy, stood proudly at his mentor's side and waited for them to continue. He couldn't wait until they toured the territory.
Littleleaf;; Littleleaf was now getting annoyed at the fact that no one had noticed her. At first, of course, she wished to be gone unseen, but now it was insane. Why wouldn't anyone mention her name? Why wasn't she important? She was new wasn't she? Wasn't she special to be medicine apprentice? Littleleaf snorted and sat down neatly with her tail around her paws, but then extended a little closer to former leader and mentor. She inched closer and closer until their smell reeked in her nose and her eyes watered from the unusual different smells of her clanmates. "Welcome back, Blackstar. As you can see, Smallstar is our leader now. She is great, and so were you." She nodded her head then turned to Darksoul. "Why hello there Darksoul, how do you do?" She was now hoping some attention from her leader, Smallstar.

((Better late than never right? DX))
Russetfur did not chant for her clanmates as they were named and as Miragesoul was named deputy. She just sulked in her corner fuming. The dark pointed cat mouthed the words to seem like she cared, but she didn't.
"Leopardkit, from now on you will be known as Leopardpaw. Russetfur, you are ready for an apprentice, you will be Leopardpaw's mentor. Russetfur, you have the skills of great strength and intelligence and I expect you to pass on all your skills to Leopardpaw, so that he may be a loyal warrior to ShadowClan."
The she-cat almost grudgingly came forward to accept her apprentice until it hit her that now she was qualified to be deputy herself. Well that certainly changed everything. The she-cat picked up her self carriage a little more as she proudly stepped forward to great Leopardpaw as Smallstar named him. Russetfur even called out Leopardpaw's new name with some enthusiasm.
Russetfur gritted her teeth as typical Lightheart fell flat on his face and trenched her in mud, perfect. She'd claw his ears off later for that one. The stupid fur ball was always rubbing her fur the wrong way it seemed or did it? The red cat took a deep breath to regain self control. "You stupid fur ball, why don't you go fall in the lake (or a cliff) or something?" Her fur warmed slightly as she thought about the good natured tom and quickly repressed the thought. She would never again feel such things for any cat, but inside Lightheart's antics would always make her smile, she just couldn't help it, but a bramble screen and thorn barrier guarded these thoughts heavily.
"I'm pleased to know that you are my mentor Russetfur."
Russetfur glared at her apprentice as she was to still fuming inwardly at her failure for becoming leader, but she would remedy that soon enough, but for now she had other things to attend to. As the ginger cat touched noses with her apprentice she could not help a small look of satisfaction and happiness slip across her face despite her anger.
The she-cat did not notice the slip in her facade as she spoke to her apprentice. "You had better get some sleep tonight for you shall be up early to learn the territory and then some battle training. After that you can have some time for yourself I suppose. However, I'm not going to let you get off that easily, I'll be nice on your first day, but after that we get serious, the warrior thought.
As the former leader padded through the camp Russetfur's thoughts turned darker. How dare he come back after he had abandoned them like that?! Blackstar was certainly not worthy of his position, a good leader should never let their Clan fall into such disorganization. The rusty colored cat growled softly under her breath as she looked at the solid, black tom. Well she would just stay away from him, after all, she owed him nothing and he could not control her either, only Smallstar and Miragesoul had the power to order around now. To Russetfur it mattered nothing that he was now a senior warrior an former leader, he was unworthy of her time no matter what.
