Nightfeather ``
A twisted snarl rang out through the clear daylight as an enraged she-cat pawed her way through the thick grass. Fires of hatred burned in her eyes and her movements were stiff and forceful. Her tail jerked from side to side, displaying her feelings of annoyance.
She stalked into the middle of the thunderpath near her and she just stood there, not making a sound. The inky smell of the thunderpath stung her nose and made her head swim, her knees threatened to buckle. It seems they had recently put another coating of the thunderpath down, the scent hadn't been able to waft away from it's previous home into the air. The air also stank with the fumes that came from the monsters that sped down the thunderpath. All together it was an intoxicating mixture of dizzying scents but the she-cat was too ruffled to care.
She plopped herself down on the path and grit her teeth. If someone came, surely they would be shredded to ribbony pieces. Her anger surely would be taken out on something but at the moment there was nothing but hard, smelly, thunderpath to scractch.
And that's what she did.
Her nails raked savagely over the hard-top again and again, some strokes caused long, pale streaks across the section she was at.
Her anger was for the rise, then the sudden lethal fall of her beloved clan. Shadowclan had been powerful, it was pounding full of raw power and then it just all seeped out through the cracks. Those cracks made this she-cat even more upset and her slashes became more violent. Her claws started to hurt as they vibrated against the hard-top as they slid down.
She finally stopped and sighed. Her body slumping pittifully to the ground, muscles laced with fatigue.

Miragesoul dashed through the grasses. Pine needles were hanging onto her thin pelt as she left the shadows of the forest for the paths of the twolegs. The area around the path was bare, it was just another reason to hate twolegs. They had ripped trees out of the forest, how could they even think of anything so sinister? The clans cats, loners or even rogues wouldn't think of such a thing. Miragesoul continued to follow the path, her mind ablaze with questions and worries. It was like the Great Disappearance all over again. Had it been so, what cats would be left in ShadowClan? ThunderClan? The forest? That was her main worry, to be alone in a forest of dark thoughts and death.
She remembered Blackstar, he had left a little after their declared love. She heaved a sigh and dropped her head, was it no use? Would she ever get over the fact that her old mate was gone? She couldn't think of another cat being her mate, the feeling had changed her personality and she hated that. She used to be a powerful cat full of battle tactics. Now all she's good for is weeping and moaning about the past. The she-cat unsheathed her claws and scratched at a yellow leaf. It was far from its home, all the way from the oaks in ThunderClan territory. Her claws dug through it, she took it in her teeth and pulled it off of her claws a moment later. Maybe it was a sign, no it couldn't be.
There was a half moon the other night; she had desperately wanted to visit the Moonpool. Was Darksoul still alive? What about Tacticpaw? The thought just made her feel worse. Dropping the leaf she loped forward, past the fork in the twoleg path. She took the one that led into the forest, had she known what it led to she may have chosen differently. It was a thunderpath. Its body was a deep ebony and the lines in the middle were as yellow as the leaves on the trees. Leaf-fall was nearly over, the leaves would no longer be that shade of yellow. Miragesoul kept following the thunderpath to see where it led.
With its stink wrapping around her thin body and her claw ranking at its side, she left the marks of her kindling anger. Then, just as she pushed the thought of her old mate behind her, she remembered Blackclaw and her anger burst into flames. Old comments about his choices fed the flame and what may lay ahead made them glow. Her mind was becoming a waking forest fire.
She continued to lope forward until she saw the body of a friend of hers, Nightfeather. she was sitting on the path, what was she thinking? A monster could come by at any moment! "Nightfeather?" Was she just imagining the feline, was she trying to imagine what could not be seen?

Nightfeather's head snapped up and she lifted herself from the groud which she laid. Her name had rang out into the deep silence that surounded her. When she turned her head to follow the call her eyes met with her friend Miragesoul's. She saw passing thoughts through her friend's eyes, only pieces though, the she-cat was too far away for full assessment. What she saw though, concern, confusing and most prominent of all, throbbing anger seemed to run rivers through her eyes and through her frame. Her posture seemed to be lined with the firey hate she was consumed in.
The midnight she-cat moved a pawstep closer to her companion but in the midst of all this, a distant sound of rumbling thunder brought its way to her ears. Nightfeather froze, turned and set her gaze on the sight of the monster that was tearing its way down the thunderpath. As it grew nearer, she could smell the smoke and hear the roars that ripped from it's gruesome body. Her nose twitched but that was all that moved within the she-cat as she stared at the speading monster. She did though, turn to her friend and that's when she snapped out of her reverie.
Speeding off the grim thunderpath, she did a full three-hundred sixty degree turn and stared at Miragesoul. Her own eyes clouded as the anger that poured from the other she-cat seemed to suround her in an angry cucoon. She let out a breath that she didn't even realize she was holding, placed the tip of her tail on Miragesoul's shoulder and a small smile appeared on her face.
"Yes, it's me," she paused, "Miragesoul, are you okay?" Her voice melted in with the silence, it's soft tones floating on a comforting level.

As the tortoiseshell feline reached Nightfeather she began to douse her flame. It wasn't worth burning. She let the question sit in her mind for a moment, was she really OK? Miragesoul sat down on the cold thunderpath as the monster roared by. Its scent washed over her in a gust of wind. The breeze itself was having trouble cleaning the musty scent off, itself. The thunderpath infected all things. If she could drain the thoughts of her mate and Blackclaw out of her mind she would be fine, the felines both had their time and that time had passed. Just to feed her hunger to remember, she would take a moment to recall each tom.
Blackstar, he was the first cat she had seen after the Great Disappearance. Their fiery personalities blew up at each other that warm New-leaf day, each cat was passionate about their own thoughts and opinions. Over the moons the tom grew on her and she began to change, as did he. Her heart picked up speed as she turned the pages of her book. The day came when they declared their feelings to each other, the two had become two completely different cats from the first time they met. Blackstar announced their feelings one day in front of the clan, as did he announced the position of Blackclaw. Miragesoul had doubted him, she had become a monster-wreck under her the power of her heart. He left soon after that, she had not had the last moment to talk to him to tell how she really felt about him. Her love was true though she longed to have her old fiery personality back.
Her face began to burn up when she thought about this, she did want to become herself again. How would the clan act if she did? Maybe it'd be for the best, she could get back to her old opinions and feelings. To back up her choice, Blackclaw's chapter came in the book.
Blackclaw had been announced deputy at the same ceremony as the declaration of Blackstar and Miragesoul's feelings, after that day he became a deputy with higher demands. He acted as if he had been given his nine lives, as if he had been leader even before the Great Disappearance. Miragesoul kept her anger a mere spark while keeping herself calm. She'd cool down completely while talking to Nightfeather, she always seemed to.
"I'm fine, just a little ruffled."
It was true, all she had to do was talk about what was on her mind and she'd be fine; then she could become herself once again. Well, more like her old self again.

``Nightfeather.
Nightfeather snorted. A true amused expression that escaped her lips. The only thing that seemed to be fine was how good of prey the clans seemed to be accumilating. No cat would be hungry on the lonesome nights of leaf-bare that's for sure. Nightfeather did wonder though, what would become of this leaf-bare. She wondered what would happen with Shadowclan's future, she wondered what would happen to the cats and the territory... She just had too many questions and concerns to worry about, that didn't even need to be worried about by her.
"Oh please, a little?" The she-cat tried to settle back into her usual bravado as a sly smile lit her face. Usually, she had been so angry, and other cats were now able to see through that mask better than before. There were large cracks in that mask and that was bothering Nightfeather. It seemed that everything about her psyche was slowly crumbling to itty-bitty pieces and she could barely keep it all together. It was too delicate to touch and if you did, if shattered to dust.
"From afar I saw the emotions aflame in your eyes, friend. Nothing but the usual but I'm starting to worry for you. Anger seems to have taken a liking to your emotional palet and it looks like it's made a home inside you." She circled around Miragesoul and she let the aggitation deflate from her piercing gaze and from her soul.
"If there's something on your mind you can say it, Miragesoul. No cat is told to be mute in their opinions and you have every right to say what you want --to your supieriors, no-- but speak freely." Her usual crooked grin was plastered on her face and she sat down comfortably in the grass. It wasn't green, because of the monsters most likely and their toxic gasses but it was grass.

As Nightfeather finished circling the she-cat, Miragesoul kept her place but had turned her head to face her companion. Of course the flaming passions had bled through into the world around her. At times Miragesoul had a knack at hiding her feelings, but anger would always be let loose in vivid colours. That was why she had started out alone, though she would not admit it, she had succumb to the thirst for company and friendly warmth.
After Nightfeather's preceding reply, Miragesoul allowed her anger to grow again. It seemed that Nightfeather's friendly tone of voice hit something in Miragesoul to do so. And again, the blazing emotional roller coaster dwindled into coals as she continued her speech. The thoughts that were flying around Miragesoul's mind should have been forgotten and dismissed, but some things cannot be forgotten only remembered.
Keeping her guards up and trying not to let her mind burst into furious flames, she spoke of what was the start of the haze.
"You know how I feel. We've seen the better and worse of this lake. Perhaps -"
She broke off and dropped her head. Her ears were glued to her head in attempt to close in what feelings may overpower her, but like always, her anger shows through.
"I'll keep that extra den for the lovely, menacing anger that will forever attack. You and Hardsoul have something, while Blackstar and I, well never mind.."
She hissed as she drew her head closer to her chest before lashing out at her surroundings. The tortoiseshell she-cat was now standing, the meaningless anger yet again growing.
"I used to be self-sufficient! Self-reliant! Before he came along. I let my guard down and he entered. He scratched what cannot heal."
Letting her voice shrink down to a whisper, her most recent peaceful side began to show through. Although it had not lasted for long, it gave her mind a rest from her ranting. Mirangesoul had been yelling with strings of passionate words. Her mind created more interesting and meaningful arguments but the words fled from her mouth as mice instead of lions. This long pause led Miragesoul to what she was to say.
"Spare me of your sympathy! I don't need it! Life is hard and love is even harder! I've fought a great deal of battles and won many! I cannot win the battles between clan mates and I cannot even begin to speak of the failure in the battle against myself! I thought everything was going well, but when you let yourself soften and open up to cats, things can happen."
Her teeth were bared, claw unsheathed and neck fur raised. Moments passed as anger radiated from her body, anger mixed with regret. Rapidly, she turned and fled. Her legs moving with such speed across the land in front of her. What she had said was a maelstrom of words and false comments. She hadn't meant what she said.

`` Nightfeather.
Nightfeather's eyes narrowed in responce to Miragesoul's tidal wave of words. She could tell that the tension in the air was suffocating her friend. Those words were only spoken out of the anger that harboured her thoughts but they still provoked the defensive mechanism that Nightfeather still kept within her. It had been a while since she used it but the she-cat knew the procedure well. Narrowed eyes, snarky phrases that slithered out of your mouth and a rigid stance.
She sped after the speeding Miragesoul. Her muscles bunched and pulled with the exertion of full out running. The wind pressed her longish fur flat to her lithe body, decreasing her size. When she quickly caught up to Miragesoul and matched her pace, the she-cat opened her mouth and a short phrase mixed in with the wind.
"I don't give out sympathy." The words were hissed out from between clenched teeth. Nightfeather's tail swished behind her in pure annoyance. Miragesoul just kept running away.
"If you're just going to let anger cloud your judgment then I do not want to associate with you. Speaking to you would be like speaking to an angered tiger!" Her words, thick with false meaning sank into the atmosphere. Their purpose wasn't to create more rage, but to let the she-cat think. No one wants to associate with another that is continually trying to bite one's head off.
